Positions: Substitute coverage could include: 1:1 nurse for individual student support, health room coverage, or nurse coverage for absence or extra needs


The Camas School District is seeking outstanding educational leaders to serve as Substitute Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse. These positions will implement and deliver student health services in assigned schools or one to one, under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor and Building Administrator .



Essential Functions:
  1. Provide for the critical needs (perform emergency care) of students in the schools, and implement student emergency plans for students with life threatening medical conditions, medically fragile students, and students with health concerns.
  2. Work with other school staff in regards to student health issues.
  3. Provide nursing care within the scope of practice for a LPN or RN following district policies and procedures and state guidelines.
  4. Collect health services or other student data as directed by district RN and the classroom teacher.
  5. Perform emergency care if necessary. Maintain accurate records pertaining to medication and treatment administration.
  6. Perform professional 1 on 1 nursing services as required. Including, providing for the physical needs of the student which may include catheterization, toileting, lifting, transferring, etc.
  7. Establish a communication plan with the classroom teacher and student's parent in regards to the student's health and school needs.
  8. Other duties as assigned to support the success of the school district.
  9. Attend various team meetings as necessary to maintain an up-to-date understanding of school policies, procedures, and laws.
  10. Assist in the implement specialized and/or adaptive procedures and curriculum materials as instructed by the teacher.
  11. Implement individual education plans (IEP) as designated by the teacher.
  12. Implement Physical Therapy stretching and strengthening routines under the direction and supervision of the Physical Therapist.
  13. Implement Speech and Language services for facilitating communication under the training and supervision of the Speech Pathologist and classroom teacher.
  14. Support and implement behavioral plans with students as directed by the teacher.
  15. Provide occasional support and implement plans with other students in the classroom if directed by the teacher.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  1. Exposure to diseases/illness carried by students
  2. Exposure to student noise levels.
  3. Travel within and outside of district boundaries.
  4. Attend meetings/activities beyond normal work hours.
  5. Ability to ride the bus with a one to one student before and after school if needed.
  6. Ability to move equipment and/or lift up to 60 pounds, according to established procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Hold a current Washington State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license
  2. Current CPR/1st aid certification
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in a school setting and/or with pediatrics.
  2. Knowledge of diabetic care including insulin, pumps, carb counting, etc.
  3. Knowledge of seizure care including administration of emergency medications.
Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
