Job Description
Place of Performance: Services will be performed in the Health Services Department of the FCI Elkton, 8730 Scroggs Road, Lisbon, Ohio 44432.
SCHEDULE: Dental Assistants will work up to six (6) hours per day, estimated thirty (30) hours per week. Hours will be scheduled between the hours of 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays. If a schedule performance occurs on a federal holiday, the schedule may be adjusted to make up for time lost. The schedule may be adjusted to meet the institutions needs as mutually agreed between the contractor and the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).
SCOPE OF SERVICES: Dental Assistants will be responsible for the following:
• Abides by FCI Elkton’s infection control policies.
• Provides prevention duties and chairside assistance to the dentist.
• Cleans, polishes and/or oils equipment according to manufacturer’s or biomedical recommendations.
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments, using autoclave techniques.
• Prepares sterile trays, packs, sutures, etc.
• Maintains a number of recurring reports, including those concerning materials and equipment. • Properly stores and maintains adequate supplies in the dental clinic.
• Requisitions dental laboratory work.
• Greets, receives and prepares patients for treatment.
• Lays out instruments and materials needed for treatment.
• Provides chairside assistance during oral examination and restorative treatments.
• Passes instruments and materials to and retrieves them from the dentist.
• Operates oral evacuator and suction tip to keep area of operation clear.
• Retracts tissue, cheek and tongue.
• Scans dental treatment plans into Bureau’s Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
• Relays post-treatment instructions to the patient from dentist.
• Completes radiographs, marks them with identifying information and upload them into the inmate’s BEMR file.
• Uses lead aprons and shields as protection against radiation.
• Other job related responsibilities required for a dental assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be Registered and licensed in the state of Ohio. Must provide copies of license, diploma/certifications, Hep B vaccination, CPR certification
PAY AND BENEFITS: $19.96 per hour with an additional $4.57 per hour for Health & Welfare. Think of it as $24.53 per hour. 11 paid Federal Holidays, up to 56 hours of earned Sick Leave per year and up to 2 weeks of paid vacation after one year of service.
